English, a dominant international language, serves us to communicate and interact with the English- speaking world in various fields: trade and business, science and technology, politics and diplomacy just to name but a few. As non-native English speakers and with the goal of mastering this important language, we learn English by using different approaches and methods. Listening, reading, speaking and writing are among the most practical ways to develop our proficiency in English.

As non-native English speakers and with the goal of mastering this important language, we learn English by using different approaches and methods. Listening, reading, speaking and writing are among the most practical ways to develop our proficiency in English. Course objective: The purpose of this course is to enhance students' English reading comprehension and their ability to communicate appropriately and effectively, and in the meantime to widen their vocabulary and general knowledge in a variety of fields. Core Abilities: -Help students acquire advanced communicative competence in English. -Develop students' analytical ability and independent thinking. -Broaden students' global perspectives Course Texts: Selected reading articles with the focus on the following topic areas: Science & Technology, Economics, Politics, Finance, International Relations, and Environmental Issues. Teaching Method: Lecture, reading & discussion, presentation Students will be divided into small groups with 4-5 students each in order to work on the assigned reading articles. During the semester, each group will present at least twice their additional findings, view points and comments on the articles with the aid of power point. Each group will have 20-25 minutes to do the presentation with the full participation of each member of the group, and followed by 10 minutes question & answer. Evaluation Criteria: Class attendance: 10% Degree and quality of participation in discussion: 25% Vocabulary quiz: 25% English Presentation: 40% (mid-term & final Exams)
