This course is the second part of a two-semester sequence. The purpose of this sequence is an introduction to statistical methods and applications for economics students. We will emphasize on statistical concepts and methods that are commonly used in economics and business, and these materials will be presented with applications to data analysis. In the spring semester, we will focus on hypothesis tests, linear regression with one regressor, linear regressions with multiple regressors, nonparametric statistics, analysis of variance and forecasting.

Textbook: Anderson, D., D. Sweeney, T. Williams, J. Camm, J. Cochran, M. Fry, and J. Ohlmann (2019). Statistics for Business and Economics. 14th edition. Cengage. Evaluation: The course grade is based on three elements: four assignments, a midterm exam, and a final exam. Assignments: There will be four problem sets and they will be assigned after finishing major topics. You have at least seven days to work on each assignment. The assignments will include both problem solving and empirical exercises. Solution keys will be posted on the course website soon after the submission deadline, so late submission is not accepted. Empirical exercises require the use of excel or R. Midterm Exam: The midterm will be held in class during the class hours. The exam is expected to take 120 minutes. There will be no make-up exams for the midterm. If you miss the midterm, you must give a valid reason and proof, and the weight will be assigned to the final. Final Exam: The final exam will be held during the class hours. It is comprehensive and it is expected to take 120 minutes. If you have to miss the final, you must give a valid reason and proof, and contact me to arrange a make- up final exam.
