This course provides an in-depth presentation and discussion of how engineering and biological approaches can be combined to enhance human health or to solve problems in human disease, emphasizing integration of biological technologies and methodologies with engineering analysis. Emphasis is placed on tissue engineering triad, including nanostructured biomaterial scaffold synthesis and property, stem cell behavior in tissue growth and organ development, and bioreactor design principles. The purpose of this study is to provide students with advanced scientific and engineering principles of tissue engineering approaches in the design of medical implants, artificial organs, and biomatrices for the field of regenerative medicine.
