Each week a student will be required to perform tasks, including giving a presentation of a paper and leading a discussion. When not presenting, student audience will be required to read the papers and participate in discussion.
Course keywords: oral presentation, discussion, scientific impact evaluation, model synthesis, trend prediction Course Introduction Giving useful critiques to research works is an important skill for not only personal development as a scientist but also for progress of scientific fields as a whole. In this course, students will learn how to critique and evaluate scientific papers. Students will be required to use a standardized method, which will be introduced in the class, to offer critique and evaluation of an assigned paper. Moreover, by applying these skills, reading papers will transform from passively receiving information to an active process. This will enable students to read papers in a more efficient manner. Syllabus TBD. (Will be discussed and determined at the beginning of the course.) Evaluation 1.Oral presentation (60%) – Evaluation of this part is based on organization logic and clarity of presentation. 2.Discussion (40%) – Evaluation of this part is based on the questions raised in each of the fellow students’ presentation. 3.More detail requirement and grading criteria will be provided at the beginning of the course.
